More rain, hailstorm likely in Anantapur, Kurnool, Kavali

Rains in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh has been witnessing  prolonged spell of unseasonal rains for last two to three days. In the past 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, AnantapurKavali and Kurnool recorded 10 mm, 34 mm and 37 mm of rains, respectively. Well, this is not all, as we expect more rains on card for the state.

These rains were on account of a north-south trough running from North Chhattisgarh to Interior Karnataka across Telangana. The trough is now shifting towards east and is now running from Odisha to Tamil Nadu across Andhra Pradesh. With this, we expect good rain and thundershowers to continue for another 24 hours, but the intensity of rains would be much over Rayalaseema. Anantapur and Kurnool are likely to record more moderate to heavy spells.

Hailstorm is also chance over some parts. As per the meteorologists at Skymet Weather, during this time of the year, the temperatures remain low and freezing level is also low. So, whenever convective clouds develop with the height of 8-10 km, chances of hailstorms increase. Thus, chances of thundershowers accompanied with hailstorms is more over Rayalaseema.

By January 29, the trough will get weakened and there will be significant fall in rain activities. However, isolated light rains might continue over Rayalaseema on January 29 as well.

At present, the maximums at many places of Andhra Pradesh is below 30°C and by tomorrow, i.e. January 29, the temperatures might see a rise by two to three degrees.

Till January 27, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema were rain deficient by 91% and 34% , respectively. With these rains, there are fair chances of Rayalaseema to enter the normal range category. However, Coastal Andhra Pradesh would be rain deficient.
