More rains for Baripada, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Cuttack; lightning strikes expected

March 5, 2019 11:19 AM |

The northern and central parts of Odisha have observed thundershower and thunderstorm activities along with strong gusty winds during the last 24 hours, wherein Cuttack has recorded 3 mm of rainfall, followed by Keonjhargarh 0.7 mm, Chandbali 0.4 mm and Bhubaneswar 0.7 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, the reason for these rains can be attributed to a Trough which is extending from Tripura up to Coastal Andhra Pradesh across northern parts of Odisha. Moreover, the Anti- Cyclone present over Southwest Bay and adjoining Coastal Andhra Pradesh is inducing moisture content over many parts of Odisha.

With the systems likely to persist for some more time, we expect these activities to continue over coastal stations of Odisha for next 24 to 48 hours. The clouding will increase afternoon onward and activities will pick up pace by late afternoon or evening hours.

Places like Baripada, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Badhrak, Khorda, Cuttack, Keonjhargarh and few parts of Ganjam and Koraput will witness a short spell of rain and thundershower activity with isolated squall during the next 24 to 48 hours. Moreover, there are chance of lightning strikes over isolated places.

In wake of these activities, day temperature is likely to remain marginally above normal, while night will remain pleasant with mist and haze.
