Mumbai Pollution: After Delhi, Mumbai smog appears; air quality becomes very poor

Delhi Pollution has been the talk of the nation for quite a while now. Pollution levels had been so high that the city had come to a standstill. Schools had remained closed for quite a long time now as the skies refused to clear up leading to Delhiites choking on hazardous air.

The air quality had deteriorated to an extent where the Pollution levels had crossed all highs and remained severe. Even now, Delhi Pollution continues to persist, but the levels have subsided to some extent.

Now, after the national capital, it is the turn of the commercial capital to see the decline in the air quality. Yesterday, Mumbaikars woke up to a smoggy morning and it soon became the talk of the town. Mumbai Pollution has caught the attention of many as smog has begun to make appearances during the morning hours.

In fact, many parts of Mumbai have been witnessing air quality of very poor quality. For instance, air quality index in Navi Mumbai stood at a whopping 349, with Andheri witnessing the levels at 311. Other parts of Mumbai also saw pollution levels above 300 which includes Bandra Kurla Complex 308, Borivali 305 and Mazagaon 301.

Due to the presence of an anti-cyclone over Telangana and adjoining areas, easterly air mass is affecting the Konkan coast. This air mass is light in nature. Not only this, simultaneously, moisture laden westerly winds which are also light in nature have been affecting the Konkan region.

Hence, due to the presence of moisture, shallow fog has been occurring over Mumbai. The local smoke due to light winds has been settling in the lower levels of the atmosphere. Thus, the combination of local smoke and fog has resulted in smog over the region.

These weather conditions are expected to persist until tomorrow, thus, Mumbaikars may see another morning with smog. Thereafter, some improvement in these conditions is expected.
