The hilly states of North India are not only famous for its enchanting and scenic beauty but are reckoned for the beautiful rains it gets. Being situated at an altitude and affected by weather systems almost all throughout the year, the weather across the hills mostly remain pleasant which is the reason tourists often flock the hills of North India.

Rains have been lashing the tri-state of Northern Hills from last many days and somewhat similar is the weather condition for Uttarakhand as well. Fresh spells of rains have shown up in parts of the state in the last 24 hours well. Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, the lake city, Nainital received a whopping 68 mm of rains, followed by Mussorie with 25 mm of rains, Haridwar 24.6 mm, and Dehradun recording 19 mm of rainy spells.
The reason for these rains can be attributed to a Western Disturbance which was over Jammu and Kashmir. Now, this weather system is moving away eastwards thereby leading to a reduction in the rainfall activities over parts of Uttarakhand. However, due to the advancement of Southwest Monsoon, moderate rains with isolated heavy spells particularly over the eastern parts of the state are still likely to show up over many famous tourist destinations.

Since not many heavy falls are anticipated, possibilities of the landslide will reduce. Though as due to the recent moderate to heavy downpour over many parts of the state, the soil has become loose in nature, any further good showers may result in minor landslides as well. Thus the possibility of landslides which was the incident in the recent past is minimized but cannot be completely ruled out.
A recent incident of the landslide has occurred today in Vaishno Devi which killed one pilgrim also injuring five others.
