Nights get colder in Delhi as minimums drop below 10 degrees

Delhi weather has been playing some kind of see saw for the past two weeks. So much so that there have been varied variations of temperatures with a few days witnessing sky high minimums while the other seeing very low temperatures.

In fact, during the last ten days, the minimum temperatures remained below the 10-degree mark. Even during the first five days of December, the minimums remained on the lower side. Meanwhile, the maximums continued to remain on the higher side with temperatures remaining above the 25-degree mark on most occasions.

However, the peripherals of Cyclone Ockhi extended up to a longer distance. Due to increase in clouding, the minimum temperature on December 6 and 7 rose by about 4 to 5 degrees and settled above 13 degrees.

Now, the system has diffused, and seasonal pattern of winters persists. Not only this, the winds have become dry northwesterly which have resulted in the drop of minimums once again. Today, the Safdarjung observatory recorded the minimum temperature at 9.4 degrees.

Similar pattern is expected to prevail until tomorrow. Thereafter, around December 10, temperatures may rise once again due to the approach of Western Disturbance and reversal of winds to easterlies. During this time, between December 11 and 12, day temperatures will witness a drop and minimums will rise.

However, as the Western Disturbance moves away, winds will once again change and cold winds from the snow-clad mountains will blow over the region resulting in drop in minimum temperatures once again. In fact, fog may also make a comeback over the national capital during this period.
