There are fewer chances of relief from floods, as the Monsoon showers will continue. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday, North Lakhimpur witnessed heavy rain of 64 mm, Goalpara 22 mm, Tezpur 10 mm, Tangla 8 mm, Silchar 7 mm, Kohima 5 mm, and Pasighat 6 mm.
Assam has been worst affected, particularly districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Chirang, Morigaon, Nagaon in the Brahmaputra Valley and Cachar in the Barak Valley. According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the number of people suffering has increased to 62,356 from 45,000 yesterday.
Also, over 148 villages were still submerged and around 6,141 hectares of agricultural land remains inundated.
At present, the axis of Monsoon trough is running up to east Assam across Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, which has been primarily responsible for the continuous rains and thundershowers over the region.

Moreover, humid southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal are feeding moisture over entire northeastern states. Therefore, it is anticipated that good rains will continue over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and some parts of Meghalaya (NMMT).
Meanwhile, these rains will continue for another three to four days. As on September 7, NMMT is already rain surplus and we expect the rain surplus to increase further over all these states.
