Refusing to slow down, Rain God seems to be angry with Chennai this year. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Northeast Monsoon remains vigorous over Chennai with light to moderate showers likely to continue for another 24 hours.
Chennai that has been battling worst rain in last 100 years, will get no respite from downpour during next couple of days as well. The cyclonic circulation in Southwest Bay of Bengal off the Tamil Nadu coast, which has been responsible for the incessant wet spell will persist for next 4 days and will continue to give rain. However, rains may not be as intense and incessant on Thursday as in last 24 hours.
At present, intensity of rain is more over North Tamil Nadu including Chennai. Thereafter, cyclonic circulation will shift southwestwards and cover more parts of southern districts of the state.

The situation remains grim, as water level is increasing continuously across Chennai. Thousands of people were stranded without electricity and food. Air Force, Navy, Army and National Disaster Response Force have been pitched in for the rescue operations.
The Saidapet bridge over the Adyar river that runs through the city was shut down for vehicular movement as water slopped on to the bridge.
All flights from Chennai were cancelled with no further notice due to flooding at the airport. While, over 20 trains were cancelled.
