No snow show for hills of North India on Christmas

December 20, 2015 4:38 PM |

No snow show for hills of North India on Christmas EveThe residents of India rush to the hills of North India to enjoy a snowy white Christmas. Most places in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and a few areas in Uttarakhand observe snowfall during Christmas giving tourists a good chance to witness a snow clad Christmas. However, this year may be disappointing.

A fresh Western Disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas and will result in widespread rain and snow over many areas of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Himachal Pradesh on December 22. Isolated rain and snow are likely in the higher reaches of Uttarakhand as well.

However, by December 23, the intensity of rain and snow show will reduce and only light rain and snow will continue over a few areas of the hills of North India. By December 24, the Western Disturbance will move away and icy cold north-westerly winds will resume over the plains of North-west India leading to a drop in temperatures.

But, as no fresh weather system is expected during Christmas, no snow show is expected over the hills of North India. Winter chill will be at its peak, and snow from the previous system may be seen, but fresh snowfall on Christmas Eve or on Christmas day is highly unlikely.
