Pre-Monsoon rain: Heavy showers continue over Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu

Rain in South IndiaWidespread moderate to heavy rain continues to lash parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Pre-Monsoon activity has intensified over southern peninsula in the last few days, ahead of onset of Southwest Monsoon in the country.

On Saturday, Bangalore recorded 66 mm of rain, Thiruvananthapuram 98 mm and Narsapur in Andhra Pradesh witnessed 74 mm rainfall.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, several weather systems are acting in tandem to give rain over the region. A cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep and adjoining Kerala region is giving moderate to heavy rain over Karnataka, Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu.

While a trough from Bihar to interior Karnataka across Chhattisgarh and Telangana is responsible for moderate to heavy rain over Telangana and parts of Andhra Pradesh.

As per the latest forecast by Skymet, moderate intensity rain will continue over most of the places with isolated heavy showers over parts of Karnataka, Kerala and coastal Andhra Pradesh, during the next 24 hours.

The cyclonic circulation is expected to become less marked in another 48 hours, reducing the intensity of rain over the region. However, scattered light to moderate rain will continue for another two to three days.
