Pre-Monsoon rains begin lashing Jammu, more in offing

April 6, 2017 12:19 PM |

Weather in Jammu and KashmirAfter witnessing exceptionally hot March, the month of April has kicked off on a rainy note. All thanks to the passage of fresh Western Disturbance which has given fairly widespread moderate to heavy rains over Jammu and Kashmir, that again is not very common in the month.

At present, Jammu city is witnessing a fresh spell of rain and thundershowers. In fact, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir has already recorded 26.6 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday.

According to weathermen, the ongoing rains are likely to continue for another hour. Thereafter, rains will take a back seat for a brief period and we can expect another spell of rains during the late afternoon.

A Western Disturbance is moving across Jammu and Kashmir, which is the primary reason for the fairly widespread rainfall over the entire state. Besides record-breaking rains, some of places have also recorded snowfall.

According to Skymet Weather, these Western Disturbances during this time of the year are not very frequent as well as active in nature. Moreover, they travel in the higher altitude and thus affect the weather over higher reaches only. However, this Western Disturbance has been an exception.

These rain and thundershowers of varying intensity are likely to continue for another 24 hours, reducing thereafter. Few places might also witness squally winds.
