Pre-Monsoon rains to revisit Kolkata

May 12, 2016 10:28 AM |

Rain in KolkataAfter remaining dry for last three days, pre-Monsoon showers are likely to reappear over Kolkata. According to Skymet Weather, one or two good spell of rain and thundershowers are expected to lash the capital city during the next 24 to 48 hours.

At present, moisture laden southeasterly winds from Bay of Bengal are reaching up to the city. Now the increased humidity levels along with high day temperatures will lead to formation of thunderclouds, giving light to moderate rain, thundershowers or thunderstorm activities over few pockets.

These fresh rains are likely to drop the maximum temperatures marginally by 1 or 2 degrees. But despite drop in mercury, weather will continue to be uncomfortably warm on account of high humidity levels.

At present, day maximums are still settling above the normal average. On Wednesday, Kolkata had recorded 38.6°C, four degrees above average.

However, nights and mornings will be fairly comfortable over the city during the wet spell.

Further, a trough is likely to develop from Bihar up to Interior Odisha that will concentrate the moisture towards itself. This will also lead to change in wind pattern over Kolkata May 13 onwards.

As a result dry weather with partly cloudy sky will return to the city. With this, maximum temperature will rise once again, paving way for hot and humid weather.
