So far in the month of October, the state of West Bengal is rain deficient by 51%, whereas Odisha is surplus by 15%. Moreover, this month these two states have not received any significant rain activities, but the surplus rainfall of Odisha can be attributed to Cyclone ‘Titli’. Between October 9 and 12, Odisha received heavy to extremely heavy rains, but since then weather of Odisha has been dry.

Now, a Cyclonic Circulation has developed over West-Central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal. Due to its influence, scattered light to moderate rains have commenced over Coastal Odisha and many parts of West Bengal.

This Cyclonic Circulation will soon induce a Low-Pressure Area over Northwest Bay of Bengal. Thus, we expect many parts of Odisha and West Bengal to get good rains. These on and off rains may continue until November 2. The rain intensity will remain more over Coastal Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. Therefore, the rain surplus of Odisha may increase further, and rain deficiency of West Bengal will reduce to some extent.

We expect significant decrease in rains over West Bengal by November 3 and weather will once again become dry. However, Coastal Odisha may receive isolated light rains thereafter also.
