Punjab and Haryana to observe pre-Monsoon rains today, activities to reduce from tomorrow

May 18, 2019 9:18 AM |

The states of Punjab and Haryana have been receiving scattered rain and thundershower activities with isolated hailstorm, since the last one week. During the last 24 hours, the city of Hisar in Haryana received heavy rainfall to the tune of 69 mm.

These continuous weather activities have been attributed to the successive Western Disturbances affecting the hills of North India along with their induced cyclonic circulations forming over parts of Rajasthan.

In the wake of these rains, temperatures over most places in  Punjab and Haryana are settling below normal since the last few days.

Now we expect these pre-Monsoon weather activities to continue in both these states for today as well. But by tomorrow, the Western Disturbance will move away eastwards and the cyclonic circulation will also weaken and dissipate. This will lead to clear weather conditions in Punjab and Haryana. However, cloudy sky conditions will still be observed.

In fact, temperatures will also start increasing gradually, but another Western Disturbance which will be affecting the Western Himalayas around May 21, will give light rains over both these states and keep the temperatures over the northwestern plains under check.

The northern districts of Punjab and Haryana such as Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Tarn Taran, Rupnagar, Kapurthala, Chandigarh, Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Kurukshetra and Karnal may witness pre-Monsoon rains between May 21 and 23.

Thus, we can say that due to on and off pre-Monsoon weather activities, heat is expected to stay away from Punjab and Haryana for the coming three to four days.
