Rain Gods bless team Karnataka as bad light in Mohali halts play

January 21, 2014 2:19 PM |

Karnataka is on the verge of securing a spot in the finals of India's top domestic cricket tournament, the Ranji Trophy season 2013-14, as rain is expected to wash out fourth day play at Mohali, near Chandigarh. Karnataka will reach the final on the virtue of the first innings lead of 147 runs over Punjab.

Punjab which was playing at its home ground, has made 270 in the first innings while Karnataka had plundered 419 for five till its first innings when bad light stopped play on the fourth day at 11:30 am. Weather Forecast for Mohali on Day 5 will not be very encouraging as rain and clouding will not give way throughout the day.

According to our forecast, rain is expected to pick up in Mohali anytime in the next few hours and may sustain throughout the next 24 hours to 48 hours, with increase in intensity tomorrow under the aegis of a Western Disturbance in North India.

Western Disturbance is a low pressure area that emerges in Meditarrean Sea and adjoining Atlantic Sea and travels to North India to bring rain and clouds during winter.

Karnataka will play Maharashtra that reached the final for the first time in 21 years with a win over Bengal  in the first semifinal played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Maharashtra bowlers performed well in both the innings as they bundled out Bengal twice in three days. Had they not, the match would have been engulfed by rain which is expected in Indore today and tomorrow as well.
