Rain in Nagpur

Dry weather has been prevalent in the state of Maharashtra for the last many days. Rains have remained absent from showing upon the state for the last many days. The last rain activity, accompanied with a hailstorm that occurred over the state was during the month of February.

Due to this, the day temperatures were on a significant rise. However, in the last 2-3 days, both the day and night temperatures of Vidarbha and Marathwada have dropped marginally. Despite a fall, both the maximum as well as minimum temperatures are still settling above normal by 2-3 degrees.

Yesterday, the maximums recorded by Amravati and Aurangabad were just a degree above normal, Parbhani, Buldhana, Nagpur, and Chandrapur were all 2 degrees each above the normal levels. While, a rise of 3 degrees each was observed in Nanded, Akola, Wardha, and Yeotmal.

As per Skymet Weather, as of now also, a further marginal rise in the day and night temperatures are expected over the regions as the weather of both the regions is expected to remain clear for the next 48 hours. Thereafter, around March 8, clouding is likely to increase over many parts of Vidarbha and at a few regions of Madhya Maharashtra.

Due to increased clouding, isolated light rains are also anticipated over the regions of North Vidarbha like Gondia, Buldhana, and Nagpur. On the contrary, Marathwada is expected to remain dry between March 9 and 10.

The reason for increased cloud cover and isolated showers can be associated with the merging of the humid southeasterly and cold northwesterly winds over Vidarbha region.

Let us look at the impact of this weather on agriculture of Vidarbha and Marathwada:

As dry and hot weather is prevailing over the region, farmers are suggested to irrigate Mango, Pomegranate, sweet lime, lime and Grape orchard. Due to variation in temperatures, sucking pest attack may occur on fruit crops, therefore farmers are also recommended to stay careful of the same.

Farmers are also advised to irrigate summer Maize and Groundnut crops as per the requirement. Due to variation in temperature, there are chances of flower and fruit drop in mango, pomegranate, and sweet lime, so farmers have to be vigilant.
