After remaining rain deficient for quite a long time, most parts of Northeast India have come to the surplus side, all thanks to the continuous rains over the region. At present, Assam and Meghalaya are surplus by 25%, followed by Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura by 57%. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh is comparatively on the lower side but is still surplus by 9%.
Moreover, rains are still continuing over the region wherein during the last 24 hours, many places in the northeastern states witnessed scattered light to moderate rain and thundershower activities.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Aizawl recorded 15 mm of rain, followed by Dhubri 17.4 mm, Lengpui 7.8 mm, North Lakhimpur 5.3 mm, Jorhat 4.1 mm, Dibrugarh 3.8 mm, Guwahati 2.9 mm and Silchar 1.9 mm.
Now, a trough is extending from Assam to Odisha across West Bengal. In the wake of this system, humid southerly winds from Bay of Bengal are feeding moisture over entire Northeast India. Thus, light to moderate rains are expected to continue for another 24 hours over the region.
Thereafter, weather will become almost dry, however, isolated rains may continue in some pockets but will not be intense. After this rainy episode, weather is expected to remain dry in the next few days.
