Northeast India has been receiving good rains for the past few days. However, rainfall intensity will reduce over many parts of the region now. Some parts of Assam, Mizoram and Nagaland will continue to receive scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers.

Monsoon will remain active over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and adjoining parts of West Assam. However, Monsoon over other parts of Northeast India is expected to remain subdued.

During last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, rainfall recorded in most pockets of Northeastern states are mentioned in the table below:

Northeast India is well known for receiving heavy to extremely heavy rainfall all throughout the year. In fact, Cherrapunji and Mawsynram, in Meghalaya are two of the rainiest cities in the world. However, these areas have not been receiving very heavy rains for quite some time now.

Barring Arunachal Pradesh, all other regions are rain deficient as on June 22. Hence, it can be concluded that June will end on a deficiency note for almost entire Northeast India.
