Rain reduces diurnal variation in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat

The Western Disturbance lying along 70°E longitude and its associated cyclonic circulation brought rain over the northwest plains with the Palam observatory in Delhi recording 6.6 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. As predicted earlier, this system brought good amounts of rain in East India as well. Rain in west Uttar Pradesh brought down maximums 7 to 8 degrees below normal once again. In the last 24 hours, Agra and Aligarh received 28.6 mm and 16.4 mm of rain, respectively. Cold day conditions prevailed as day temperature in Agra came down to 14.8. Even Aligarh recorded its maximum 7 degrees below normal at 14.2°C. The diurnal variation of temperature in these cities was only 2 to 4 degrees. Diurnal variation of temperature is the difference between the maximum and the minimum temperatures of a particular day.

The induced cyclonic circulation over south Rajasthan, Gujarat and adjoining Maharashtra region will move east/north eastwards during the next 24 hours. This system has brought in good amounts of rain in these regions. In Rajasthan, Kota received the highest rainfall of 34.8 mm, Udaipur 11.4 mm, Jaipur 10 mm and Ajmer 2 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. The maximum temperature in Kota came down 7 degrees below normal to 16.6°C while minimum went up to 14.3°C. Similarly, in Udaipur and Jaipur the difference between day and night temperatures were only 1.3 and 1.6 degrees, respectively.

The upper air trough off the west coast from Gujarat to Lakshadweep area in lower levels is expected to become less marked during next 24 hours. In view of this system, Vadodra and Surat received 35.4 mm and 11 mm of rain, respectively. Maximum in Vadodra was 8 degrees below normal at 21.7°C while in Surat, it was 5 degrees below the normal average at 26°C. Amini Devi in Lakshadweep region received 4.2 mm of rain while, Nasik received just 1.8 mm of rain. Tomorrow, isolated light rain is expected in coastal Karnataka and Goa.
