The weather system in Bay of Bengal has already given heavy rain over several parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. So much so that Chennai received a whopping 188 mm rainfall in a span of two days. In fact, Thiruvananathapuram has also received heavy rains during this period.
Fortunately, the system has moved away from the Chennai coast before intensifying into a cyclonic storm sparing the residents from the replay of the devastating Chennai floods that battered the city during the fag end of the year 2015.
While rain in Chennai will recede, on and off showers will continue over the capital city for another 24 hours. Now, the system is in close proximity to the Andhra Coast as it undergoes further intensification.
During the last 21 hours, several cities in Andhra Pradesh have already recorded heavy rains. Kakinada was lashed by heavy rains measuring 121 mm, followed by Machiilipatnam where 68 mm rain was received. Good rains occurred over other places including Ongole 67 mm, Nellore 62 mm, and Kalingapatnam 51 mm.
During the next 24 hours, very heavy rainfall is likely over many areas of Andhra Pradesh. Not only this, high velocity winds gusting beyond 90 kmph will blow over the region. The weather system could give extremely heavy rain over some places as well. During this time, good rains will also continue over North Tamil Nadu reducing thereafter.
