Winter rain in Punjab and Haryana

A fresh Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan and adjoining parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Its induced Cyclonic Circulation is over Central parts of Pakistan and adjoining Punjab. Therefore, isolated light rains will commence by today evening over the parts of Punjab and Haryana. Isolated light rain or thundery activity may also occur over West Uttar Pradesh and parts of Delhi and NCR.

As of today, Ludhiana in Punjab is the coldest city in the plains of India, with its night temperatures settling at 9.7˚C.

However, the intensity of rain will increase over Punjab and Haryana by tomorrow that is November 27. Also, by tomorrow we expect one or two moderate spells over Haryana. Whereas scattered light rain will continue over parts of Punjab. In Haryana, places like Sirsa, Hisar, Fatehabad are likely to witness one or two intense rain or thundershowers accompanied with strong winds.

As per the experts, these rainfall activities on an intermittent basis will continue in parts of Punjab and Haryana until November 27. By November 28, the Western Disturbance will move away eastward and these rain activities will also subside. Also, the induced Cyclonic Circulation will fade away leading to a clear sky.

In wake of northerly winds coming from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh, the temperatures over Punjab and Haryana will drop significantly by three to four degrees which will lead to nip in the air. Shallow to moderate fog with isolated dense fog can be a sight in parts of Punjab and Haryana during this period which may trigger visibility issues as well.
