The month of August has not been very fortunate for the state of Rajasthan as it has not bought many rains to the districts of the desert state. The state has mainly received light rains after August 1 and it was not until the last 48 hours that good rains made an appearance.
But since the last 48 hours, Rajasthan, mainly the east and southeastern region of the state have been witnessing good rains with Kota even recording a three-digit rain on August 7. At present also, parts of Rajasthan such as the capital city Jaipur, Dausa and Ajmer are witnessing light rain.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Sawai Madhopur received 68 mm of rains, followed by Kota with 54 mm, Chittorgarh 38 mm, Bhilwara 14 mm, Alwar 12 mm, Jodhpur 2 mm while Jaipur recorded merely 1 mm of rains.
As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these rains can be attributed to an upper air cyclonic circulation that is over northeast Madhya Pradesh. Moreover, a trough is also running from North Rajasthan to Bay of Bengal across North Madhya Pradesh.

In addition to this, the southwesterly humid winds are blowing over the region that is increasing the moisture content over many parts of the state. On account of all the aforesaid weather systems, East and Southeast districts of Rajasthan than includes Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Chittorgarh, and Bhilwara have been receiving moderate to heavy showers from the last 2 days.

As of now also, Skymet Weather reiterates that light to moderate spells is expected to continue over the eastern parts of Rajasthan for the next 24-48 hours. However, the districts in the western region such as Jaisalmer, Phalodi, Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, Barmer, and Nagaur may not get to see moderate to heavy spells.
Though light spells may still continue over West Rajasthan as well for another 2 days. Thereafter the intensity of rains may reduce significantly. But the eastern districts of the state will continue to witness isolated spells.
As on August 8, East Rajasthan is rain surplus by 15% while, West Rajasthan has received excess rainfall and that is why it is 95% rain surplus.
