The average Pan India rainfall shows an increase in the month of March as compared with the rainfall that the region recorded during the winter months of January and February. Herein also, the major contribution in the Pan India rains comes from Northeast India as March is the commencement of pre-Monsoon showers over the area.

Categorizing further, amongst all the states of Northeast India, the main rain contributing states are Arunachal Pradesh, followed by Meghalaya, Assam and then by NMMT (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura) region.

Rains in the month of March have also remained on a lower end however, it has been a mix of excess rains during the first week of the month while it was deficit for NMMT. However, the second week of the month is now expected to bring in some showers for the northeastern states of the country.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is over Assam, Meghalaya and adjoining areas. An anti-cyclonic circulation is also marked in North Bay of Bengal which is supplying moisture to the region through the moist winds.

Thus, the combined effect of both the weather systems would lead to an extended spell over the region from between March 15 and 18. This time also, the intensity of rains that would be ranging from light to moderate would be more over Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and the upper reaches of Assam. Isolated heavy spells may also be a chance.

The NMMT region may also make up for the long-lost rains and is likely to get some intermittent widespread rains during the similar time frame.

Thereafter, by March 18, the weather is likely to start clearing up over the entire region.
