The latter half of July and most of August have brought the gift of good rains for the state of Gujarat. This is the prime reason why both Gujarat and Saurashtra and Kutch regions are rain surplus. Southwest Monsoon has been playing a good part for most parts of the state.
In fact, from August 20 most districts of the cultural state has witnessed the varied intensity of showers. The same has continued in the last 24 hours as well when heavy rains with isolated light showers were witnessed by most districts of the state.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Tuesday, the bouquet of good showers have lashed districts such as Valsad with heavy rains to the tune of 63 mm, Rajkot 57 mm, Bhuj 47 mm, Deesa 32m, Amreli 15 m and Ahmedabad recording 8 mm of rains.

The reason for this rainfall as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to the low-pressure area which was persisting over South Pakistan and adjoining Kutch region. Moreover, the axis of Monsoon trough was also passing via Gujarat near Ahmedabad.

Additionally, moisture feed was also reaching to this low-pressure area from the Arabian Sea. As the low-pressure area was covering South Pakistan, thus all the nearby region of Gujarat and South Pakistan received heavy showers.
However, the axis of Monsoon trough has shifted over North India and this sudden shifting of the axis of Monson trough is due to the weakening of the low-pressure area over South Pakistan and adjoining Kutch region. Hence, a decrease in the rainfall activity over Gujarat is anticipated within the next 24 hours. However, scattered rains in mainly the southern part of the state that include districts such as Surat and Valsad are still expected to continue.
