Assam rains

On and off rains have kept the weather of Northeast India wet and pleasant. Widespread rains have been occurring over most parts of the northeastern states during the month of March. In the last 48 hours, states like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Mizoram recorded good rainfall activity. Meanwhile, the weather of Nagaland and Tripura went dry.

However, the rain intensity declined sharply in the last 24 hours with the rainfall intensity dropping to light to very light.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday, Pasighat recorded 14 mm of rains, Dibrugarh 9 mm, Tezpur 5 mm, Guwahati and North Lakhimpur witnessed 2 mm of rains each.

As per the weatherman at Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the trough which was extending across Arunachal Pradesh. However, now this trough has become less marked. Moreover, a cyclonic circulation also lies over east Arunachal Pradesh and over north of Bangladesh and adjoining areas.

In the wake of this, the states that were receiving good rains for the last 48 hours are likely to reduce within the next 24 hours. However, despite this reduction, light rain and thundershowers are expected to continue at some places over Assam, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and at a few parts of NMMT (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura) region.

Isolated thunder squalls are also possible over Arunachal Pradesh and adjoining areas. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal may also receive some light rain and thundershowers. Moreover, the maximum temperatures that were below normal over most parts of the seven sisters’ state would increase after 48 hours.
