The hills of North India have been receiving some very good Monsoon spells for the last couple of days. On the last day as well, moderate to heavy rains occurred at many places over Himachal Pradesh. Although, the intensity of rains was scattered with isolated heavy in the pockets of Jammu and Kashmir that too, over the northern parts of the state.
In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday, Katra recorded 121.6 mm of rains, Jammu 88 mm of rains, Dharamsala 71 mm, Una 58 mm, Shimla 25 mm, Solan 25 mm, Nahan 21 mm, Mandi 16 mm, Manali 5 mm, and Chamba recorded 4 mm of rains.
Such heavy rains had led to the incidents of cloudbursts, landslides, and flashflood that have caused traffic disruption.
As of now, we expect, rains to gradually reduce over both the states but few moderate spells would continue. The reason for the reduction in rains can be attributed to the southward shifting of the western arm of Axis of Monsoon trough.
At present, the Axis of Monsoon trough is passing via Delhi and this we expect rains to further reduce after 24 hours over both the states. Although, possibilities of heavy rains are ruled out over these states for the next three to four days.
Around August 11 or 12, the axis of Monsoon trough would once again shift to foothills that would enhance the rains over the two states again.
