The winter chill that was prevailing in most parts of Central India has taken a backseat and both the maximums and minimums are witnessing an increasing trend. In the last 48 hours, the temperatures across most parts of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat have witnessed a rise by 3-4 degrees.

In the last 24 hours also, the stations of Gujarat such as Amreli and Surat recorded the minimums 5 notches beyond the normal, Veraval and Bhavnagar also witnessed a hike by 4 degrees in the minimums. While Porbandar and Rajkot recorded the minimums at least 3 degrees above the normal.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for the rising temperatures across parts of Central India can be attributed to the persistent cloud cover over these areas.

As the clouds are medium and high and are above 10 thousand feet. This is the reason that rains have not occurred over all these places. The reason for the cloud cover can be attributed to the merging of southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea and the southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal at higher levels.

Whenever night is cloudy, the minimum temperatures tend to rise due to the greenhouse effect. The outgoing longwave radiation from the earth’s surface gets trapped between the Earth and the clouds. Due to this, the minimum temperatures increase.

As of now also the cloud cover is expected to persist over the region for another 24-48 hours and thus the minimums are not likely to witness a fall for at least next 2 days. Thus, the states of Central India will have to wait for another 3-4 days to feel the winter chill once again.
