The month of September has begun on a rainy note for Delhi and the NCR region with the city recording rains since early morning hours itself. In fact, August also ended with rains lashing the national capital.
Talking about rainfall figures, Safdarjung observatory has witnessed record three-digit rains of 112 mm of rains in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday. Palam observatory on the other hand has witnessed 71 mm of rainfall.
When rainfall is recorded, the rainfall for the last day of August which spills over the morning of September is counted for the latter month. Thus, these three digit rains are a record 24 hour rainfall for the month of September in the last 12 years. In fact, the all-time September record stands at 176.5 mm which was witnessed on September 16, 1904. Moreover, the monthly rain for Delhi for the month of September is at 129.8 mm.
As far as September 2020 is concerned, the entire month recorded 20.8 mm of rains, which shows how heavy this year’s rains have been.
These rainfall activities can be attributed to the low pressure area which is currently over Central India, and the Monsoon trough is also in proximity of Delhi and the NCR region, which is why the national capital has seen such heavy rains.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, Delhi rains are expected to continue today as well. Tomorrow and on September 3, the city will witness partly cloudy sky conditions with patchy rains. In view of these rains, weather in Delhi is likely to remain pleasant during the next few days and temperatures will remain on the lower side.
