Severe Heat Wave Over Rajasthan, Mercury Breach 48 Degree

May 23, 2024 11:41 AM |

The heat wave has been unrelenting over plains of North India, in general, and the state of Rajasthan in particular. The rise in the temperatures, more so over West Rajasthan, is on the expected lines but becoming unbearable. Severe heat waves are prevailing over some parts, particularly the border posts of the state. Capital city, Jaipur is also under the grip of a heat wave and recorded maximum temperatures in excess of 45°C, repeatedly.

Season’s highest temperatures were registered yesterday, over most parts of the state. The top on the list was Barmer, clocking 48°C, the highest over the country and for this season. Phalodi, in the neighbouring city, came very close to record 47.8°C.

The sizzling cities include :  Churu-47.4°C, Jaisalmer-47.2°C, Pilani-46.8°C,  Pali-46.7°C, Ganganagar-46.7°C,  Jodhpur-46.5°C,  and Kota 46.3°C. These are all the highest temperatures of this season and surpassed earlier highest recorded on 18th May 2024.

There is no let-up likely for the state in the remaining days of this month. It may even become worse, in between, when the mercury may rise further by a notch or two. The nights are also much warmer than normal. Warm night conditions are prevailing over all parts of the state with night temperatures hovering around 31°C-32°C. Warm conditions will persist, raising the discomfort, till the month's end.
