Sky is not blue anymore!

Monsoon in IndiaHave you recently noticed the colour of the sky? You will be surprised to know that it is not blue anymore. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the sky tends to change its appearance as we enter into the pre-monsoon season.

With the onset of the season, the region becomes more prone to dust storms and thunderstorms, which contains suspended particles. This also leads to obscure sky conditions occasionally. The only phenomena that can clear out the atmosphere is a spell of good rain.

The pre-monsoon season lasts from April-June for North India.

These storms generally originate over a vast area which includes Arabia peninsular, Middle East, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq or India. Such storms contain dust and suspended particles which are advected with the westerly winds that travel eastwards and affects North India and even parts of Central and East India too.

During this period, one needs to witness different scales of weather phenomena. The storms can be classified into three categories—a) dust devils, b) dust raising winds c) dust storms.

First two phenomena are the localized activity which covers a small area. On the other hand, dust storms have the potential to travel up to long distance and cover hundreds of miles.
