Southwest Monsoon ensures good rains in North Karnataka

September 21, 2016 4:56 PM |

Karnataka Rains 1

The three subdivisions of Karnataka have a very different tale of Monsoon to tell. For example, the region that is on the west coast i.e., coastal Karnataka region received the most rainfall in the entire state.

Coastal Karnataka is most rain deficient subdivision of the state with 22% below normal rainfall. Similar is the case with south interior Karnataka which stands at 17% rainfall deficiency.

It is only north interior Karnataka which has been a constant recipient of good Monsoon rains and has received above Monsoon rainfall with 3% more than normal rainfall. The reason why north interior Karnataka has received continuous rainfall is because the region is in the part of every major weather system entering the country from the East Coast.

For example, at present, there is a cyclonic circulation over west-central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast and South Odisha coast. This circulation is expected to move inland and in a southwest direction. That means, again Karnataka, especially north Karnataka will receive good rains in the coming days.

In fact, some weather activity can be expected in the isolated areas of the region from today evening onwards. In the next 24-48 hours, most areas of North Karnataka are most likely to receive moderate rains with chances of heavy falls in isolated areas.

So to sum it up, Southwest Monsoon may have started to withdraw from the country but south peninsular India will continue to receive good rains.
