Srinagar Snowfall: Bleak chances of white Christmas in the Valley

December 18, 2014 6:12 PM |

No Snow in Srinagar The tourists who have thronged Srinagar to enjoy the snow will have to wait a little longer this year as snowfall is likely to make a late entry.

Even though there is extremely cold weather caused by sub zero temperatures, tourists’ biggest expectation and Srinagar’s biggest attraction, snowfall, is going to give a pass this Christmas.

Unlike the norm, heavy snowfall has lashed the hilly states namely Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand before Jammu and Kashmir.

Though minimum temperature in Srinagar has been dropping consistently since last few days, absence of snowfall is still steeling away the festive cheer. While the minimum temperature recorded on 18th December was -4.2°C, it was -4°C on 17th December, -3.7°C on 16th December, -2.4°C on 15th December, -1.2°C on the 14th December.

While entire North India including Punjab and Haryana is enveloped by dense fog, hilly states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have had the taste of season’s first snowfall and parts of Peninsular India are still witnessing light to moderate showers, Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing dry cold weather.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Srinagar is not going to observe a white Christmas, though chances of light rain on 21st and 22nd December in Srinagar cannot be ruled out.
