The deep depression, which was over the West Central Bay of Bengal crossed Andhra Pradesh coast on the morning of October 12. It weakened into a depression and headed towards Telangana. On October 12th, moderate showers with one or two spell occurred over parts of Telangana. But the intensity of rains increased on October 13 and many districts of Telangana recorded heavy to very heavy rain. Extremely heavy rains were also witnessed over some parts of Telangana.
Hyderabad airport recorded 192 mm rain. Many localities in Hyderabad city, as well as adjoining areas of Hyderabad, witnessed above 200 mm of rain. During the last 24 hours, Himayat Nagar 298.8 mm, Asif Nagar 208.8 mm, Bandlaguda 242 mm, Charminar 245 mm, Saidabad 211mm and Secunderabad recorded 132 mm.
At least nine people lost their lives due to incessant rainfall over Telangana. The monthly average rainfall of Hyderabad in the month of October is 103.6 mm. With 192 mm rain, Hyderabad has surpassed its monthly average rainfall of October in just 24 hours. In fact, this is all-time record for Hyderabad for 24-hours rainfall. The earlier record was of October 6th in 1903 when Hyderabad received 117.1 mm rain.
