Vigorous Monsoon conditions have given heavy rains over several parts of Bihar, particularly Gaya. The city has recorded extremely heavy rains of 108 mm in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday.
With this, the city has recorded 261.7 mm of rain, surpassing its monthly average of 229.3 mm within the first week of September itself.
Patna also received 41 mm of rain followed by Supaul at 46.2 mm.
These torrential rains can be attributed to the low pressure area over East India, which is now marked over Jharkhand and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal.
Further, the system will continue to sustain strength and move in northwesterly direction. With this, several parts of Bihar will continue to record moderate to heavy rains during the next 24 hours as well. Few very heavy showers also cannot be ruled at isolated places.
At present, Bihar is witnessing deficit Monsoon rainfall. As on September 7, cumulative rainfall for the state stands at 13%.
However, with more Monsoon rains in offing, we can expect some improvement in the seasonal rainfall deficiency.
Flood fury intensifies
With the Monsoon rains intensifying once again over the state, the flood situation has also worsened further. Reportedly, eight more people lost their lives on Wednesday, increasing the death toll to 213.
12 districts of Bihar including Patna are still reeling under the flood situation. As per the state authorities, 79 blocks and 613 panchayats are presently under inundation, affecting 40.60 lakh people in 2,190 villages.
Over three lakh people have been evacuated till now from the flood-ravaged districts such as Patna, Vaishali, Saran, Buxar, Khagaria, Munger, Bhagalpur, Bhojpur, Begusarai, Samastipur, Lakhisarai, and Katihar.
