Uttar Pradesh has been reeling under freezing weather conditions, with record breaking temperatures. Although some relief was felt during the last 24 hours, but still many parts were in the grip of cold wave.
According to weathermen, we can now expect some significant relief as night temperatures would increase gradually tomorrow onward. This would be on account of change in wind direction, wherein chilly northwesterly winds are being replaced with comparatively warm and moist easterly winds. Rains are also likely to make an appearance from Wednesday.
This change can be attributed to an active Western Disturbance approaching Jammu and Kashmir, which would induce a cyclonic circulation over Northeast Rajasthan. A trough would also run from this system to Bihar.
New year to kick start with rains as we can expect isolated light rains to occur over southern districts of Uttar Pradesh that include Kanpur, Orai, Jhansi, Hamirpur, Manda,Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Fatehpur.
On January 2, rain would increase its spread to many parts of the state, with intensity more over eastern parts like Sultanpur, Azamgarh, Amethi, Varanasi, and Prayagraj. State capital of Lucknow may also see light o moderate rains and thundershowers. Isolated hailstorm may also occur over eastern districts.
By January 3, rains would start receding form west Uttar Pradesh but East Uttar Pradesh may continue with scattered light to moderate rains. Thereafter, weather would clear up by January 4, but this break would be for a very short span of time. Another spell of rains is expected to make an appearance around January 8 and 9.
