Wait for rain is over in Central India

April 13, 2014 3:27 PM |

According to the latest weather update by Skymet’s Meteorology Division in India, a long wait for rain seems to have ended in Central India as showers are likely in many parts of east Madhya Pradesh, south Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, north Odisha and adjoining West Bengal in the next 24 hours, owing to a weather system called the trough.

“A trough is seen extending from Chhattisgarh right up to Kerala, which will give isolated rain in many parts of Central India and South India in the next 24 to 48 hours. Except Kerala, where rain pattern may be scattered, all other states may receive light to very light rain in isolated pockets” says, Mr. Lal of Skymet’s Meteorology Division.

Central India (particularly Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh) has remained the hottest and the driest belt of India in the last few days, with maximums constantly settling in the range of 37⁰C to 40⁰C. Weather in Central India may see a rainy change but this rain activity may fail to bring any difference in the mercury levels.

Rain/thundershowers occurring towards later part of the day will keep the maximums around the same range as yesterday. Days will not just be hot, but will also be sultry in places like Odisha and West Bengal, with humidity as high as 80% in the morning and 30 to 50% in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, weather in South India is likely to turn rainy in many parts of Kerala and isolated parts of west Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Last few hours saw light rain in cities like Kochi where traces of rain were recorded. Kozhikode – 5.6 mm of rain, Kodiakanal – 2.8 mm, Madurai – trace rainfall, Bangalore – traces and Mysore – 1.6 mm. Jagdalpur  and Balasore in Jharkhand and Odisha also recorded 1.6 mm and 7.4 mm of rain respectively.

Other than rain, there are also chances of hailstorm in parts of north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.
