Warm days in Delhi to continue; rain likely in J&K, MP, Vidarbha and northeast

March 20, 2013 4:57 PM |

Day temperatures in Delhi and that of northwest India jumped above normal by 2 to 7 degrees in the hills and plains of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan during the last two days. There could be a fall in these temperatures during the next two to three days but they would remain above normal and most of these places would observe warm days during the period.

Fall in night temperatures is expected during the next 24 hours in north and northwest parts as the exit of Western Disturbance will bring more cool winds from north and northwest. Another Western Disturbance that is being claimed as a stronger one would shoot up night temperatures again after the next 24 to 48 hours.

Light rain may occur in Jammu & Kashmir during the next two days. Widespread rain in the plains and snowfall in the hills is expected from 22nd of March in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. One or two places could even receive heavy rain during the weekend. Partly cloudy to cloudy sky will have its impact on day temperatures in the hills where they could fall by up to 5 degrees.

A trough of low pressure area running from east Rajasthan to south interior Karnataka across west Madhya Pradesh with a cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha bodes well for these regions in terms of rain. Rain would occur at one or two places in west Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Vidarbha and adjoining areas of Telangana and south interior Karnataka during the next 24 hours.

In northeast, a north-south trough (a region of intensified moist winds) of low pressure area runs from Arunachal Pradesh to the Bay of Bengal. This will continue to give showers at one or two places during the 24 hours. In the east, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will also have rainfall. Rain would increase in these regions as another cyclonic circulation is heading towards them after the next 24 hours.
