Weather forecast for the week in India from 27th January to 2nd February

January 28, 2014 12:48 PM |

A look at the weather forecast for India for the entire week suggests very little changes in terms of weather conditions. This is due to the lack of a western disturbance.

North India - The biting cold weather in North India is expected to get better this week, much to the relief of the people here. Warm days with sun shining bright will  make you rejoice as there will be very little need to pack yourself in thick woolens. The weather in Delhi and adjoining plains will be slightly foggy barring isolated pockets of Palam where visibility could settle below 500 meters. Days will be pleasantly warm and the maximums will witness a rise, settling between 20 to 22⁰C on an average. The minimums will continue to hover around 8 to 11⁰C, leading to comfortable nights. In the hills, Jammu and Kashmir which observed heavy spells of snow, could now observe dry weather for most days of the week in absence of any weather system. A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to affect the hills on the 1st or the 2nd of February.

East and Northeast IndiaWeather in East India is expected to be foggy in areas close to the foothills of the Himalayas in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. However, the plains of East India may also witness a thin fog cover. Cold day conditions which had been continuing in U.P and Bihar, with maximums consistently staying below 16⁰C will improve in most parts by mid-week, except in Lucknow and Kanpur. The Kumbh Mela 2014 taking place in Allahabad will be held under pleasant weather as the mercury levels will witness a rise here. Northeast India that has been recording maximum temperatures between 26 to 28⁰C will continue to observe above normal day temperatures due to extremely dry weather and lack of rain.

Central India – This week the weather in Central India could be quite warm and uneasy during the day. Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Odisha will be particularly warm as the maximums are expected to rise and settle in the range of 25 to 27⁰C. Parts of coastal Odisha could record maximums as high as 31⁰C. The sun will shine bright and the cold weather will remain at bay. And the reason for such a weather remains the same, i.e. absence of any weather system affecting North India. Fog in Central India which has often been dense to very dense, especially in north Madhya Pradesh will be very shallow this week. Nights will not be so cold and minimums will settle between 10 to 14⁰C on an average.

South India - While dry and warm weather at this point of time is something new for the other parts of the country, South India has been witnessing such conditions for the last few weeks. Without any changes, the weather in South India will continue to be very hot and uncomfortable this week. So much so that the coastal stations of Karnataka and Kerala will record maximums record as high as 35⁰C, with some parts (Honavar and Karwar) touching 37⁰C at times. Parts of Mumbai and Goa will also see the maximums settle at around 34⁰C, way above the normal average. However, these high maximums could witness a drop in the second half of the week, bringing some relief to the people. The only spell of rain is expected to be observed at south coastal Tamil Nadu due to some clouding in the southwest Bay of Bengal. This may bring little or no changes in the weather over the state.
