A look at the weather forecast in India for the week:
North India – The week will begin on a rainy note for Delhi and North India. As rain occurs, minimums that have been settling around 3 degrees will rise whereas the maximums will drop, resulting in cold day like conditions. Maximums in the second half of the week could settle around 16 to 17 degrees. Up in the hills, widespread heavy snowfall is expected to occur in Jammu and Kashmir. A new Western disturbance on the weekend could make the weather in North India rainy and cloudy once again.
East and Northeast India–The rain belt after giving good amounts of rain in North India, will shift to East India and give widespread rain over entire Uttar Pradesh. Other than rain, fog could be the main feature this week. Moderate to dense fog is likely to continue in pockets of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, northern parts of West Bengal, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Maximums in East and Northeast India this week will maintain higher than that of North India, between 22 to 25 degrees. Minimums will maintain around 10 to 14 degrees for most days of the week but could show a drop of 2 to 3 degrees towards the weekend.
Central India– Weather in Central India will also be rainy due to moisture feed from weather systems forming in Rajathan and then later in Madhya Pradesh. North Mahdya Pradesh, could receive light widespread rain on Tuesday from the trough that could form over Rajasthan whereas parts of north and west Madhya Pradesh, northeast Rajasthan, north Chhattisgarh and north Marathwada could receive rain over the weekend due to a cyclonic circulation in Madhya Pradesh. While the maximums will drop due to a cloud cover, minimums will rise by up to 2 degrees this week.
South India– The New Year could bring some rain in South India this week. However, it will only be towards the end of the week. A cyclonic circulation in the Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a low pressure system and move in a northwestward direction and give widespread moderate rain at coastal Tamil Nadu and light scattered rain in rest of Tamil Nadu from 4th of January. Light rain could also occur in isolated pockets of Kerala and south interior Karnataka. Mercury levels which have been maintaining in the thirties for over two weeks, will start to drop due to rain.
