The start of winter is already proving to be quite eventful in many parts of India. Here’s a look at the weather forecast for the week in India.

North India– As the weather in north India turns cloudy and rainy, this week will see a lot of weather. A strong Western Disturbance could give heavy rain and snow in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh in the first half of the week, while the plains of north India could receive good amounts of showers at a couple of places due to the same system. Skies will be cloudy to overcast and haze will be witnessed in the morning hours. Minimums could rise gradually to touch 15 degrees in the first half of the week but after rain and thundershowers it could drop again to settle around 12 degrees. Maximums may maintain around 28 degrees or drop marginally due to clouding. By the weekend, weather in entire north and northwest India, including the hills, could become mainly dry with clear skies.

East and Northeast India– Generally good weather is forecast for east and Northeast India this week. Barring the haze, which will cover the foothills of Bihar and West Bengal, skies will be mainly clear. Without much rise in the maximums, day will be comfortable between 28 to 29 degrees. Nights would be pleasant if not too cool, at around 17 degrees. However, the rain belt from the north could gradually shift to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar towards the weekend, giving few spells of light rain. West Bengal in this part of the country is the only place which may be warm and humid with maximum hovering around 33 degrees.

Central India– Weather in central India is expected to be dry and slightly warmer than the rest of the country this week. The absence of a major system will keep the maximums between 29 to 30 degrees in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh. The day temperature in Gujarat and Odisha could touch 32 degrees. Nights will be comfortable with minimums settling between 19 to 20 degrees on an average. Moist easterlies or northeasterlies may make the days humid at times.

South India– Weather in south India will be rainy during in the first half of the week. Scattered or isolated showers are expected in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep and south coastal Karnataka. But by the second half of the week, the monsoon surge could lose its strength and rainfall could reduce in peninsular India. As rain reduces, day temperatures could see a marginal rise. Nights will continue to be comfortable and breezy throughout the week. Mumbai and the entire Maharashtra coast could be one of the hottest regions in the country with mercury levels touching 36 degrees.
