The Weather Systems Over The Country

The well-marked low-pressure area persists over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north coastal Odisha and the northwest Bay of Bengal. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha during the next 24 hours.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level passes through Amritsar, Chandigarh, Bareilly, Gorakhpur and Patna, extending through the centre of the well-marked low-pressure area and thereafter southeastwards to the east-central Bay of Bengal.

A trough extends from the cyclonic circulation associated with the well-marked low-pressure area to north-central Uttar Pradesh across Jharkhand and Bihar. It extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level.

Another trough extends from north Gujarat to the cyclonic circulation associated with the well-marked low-pressure area across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh at around 5.8 km above mean sea level.

The Western Disturbance persists as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu Division at around 5.8 km above mean sea level.

The upper-air cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north coastal Andhra Pradesh has become less marked.

The upper-air cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and adjoining areas has also become less marked.

Weather Activities During The Last 24 Hours

During the last 24 hours, widespread rain occurred over Northeast India, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Konkan and Goa, and coastal Karnataka.

Rain occurred at many places over Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch, west Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Vidarbha and north interior Karnataka. The remaining parts of the country remained largely dry.

Heavy rain occurred at a few places over Jharkhand and at isolated places over Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Significant rainfall included 8 cm each at Gaya and Daltonganj, 6 cm each at Jamshedpur, Itanagar and Katra, and 5 cm each at Purnea, Dhubri and Gorakhpur.

The highest maximum temperature of 40.2°C was recorded at Madurai Airport, while the lowest minimum temperature over the plains was 17.5°C at Haflong, Assam.

Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal at a few places over Tamil Nadu and at isolated places over Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, Rayalaseema, north interior Karnataka and Kerala. Minimum temperatures remained above normal across several parts of eastern, northern, central and western India.

During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain with isolated heavy to very heavy spells may occur over Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, east Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Extremely heavy rainfall is possible at isolated places over Chhattisgarh.

Light to moderate rain with isolated heavy spells is possible over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and west Uttar Pradesh.

Light to moderate rain is likely over the remaining parts of Northeast India, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Konkan and Goa, and coastal Karnataka.

Scattered to isolated light rain may occur over Punjab, Haryana, west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and interior Karnataka.

Light rain is possible over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema and Lakshadweep. The weather over west Rajasthan and several parts of the southern peninsula may remain mainly dry.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds may occur over parts of eastern India, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
