Well marked low to give good rains over West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha

The low pressure area that had formed over Northeast Bay of Bengal has gained some strength and has now become a well marked low pressure area. At present, the system lies over Gangetic West Bengal region which is why rainfall activity has been seen over many parts of these areas.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a couple of areas in West Bengal have recorded three digit rainfall wherein diamond harbour witnessed 150 mm of rain and Midnapore saw 149 mm of rainfall.

Heavy rains to the tune of 87 mm have also been recorded over the city of Kolkata. Moderate showers were seen over Digha 59 mm, Shanti Niketan 40 mm, Bankura 21 mm, Jamshedpur 27 mm and Purnea 25 mm.

The system is expected to give good rainfall over northern parts of Odisha, many areas of Gangetic West Bengal and some parts of Jharkhand as well during the next 24 hours. Some parts of West Bengal may also receive some heavy rainfall activity even ranging up to 100 mm or so.
