Widespread rainfall of varying intensity to continue over Bihar

August 21, 2015 5:10 PM |

Rain in BiharBy the end of July, rainfall deficiency in Bihar stood at 31%. But now, as on August 21, rainfall deficiency in the state has come down to 18%. Over the last 8 to 10 days, scattered light to moderate rain has been observed over most parts of Bihar. This has brought down the rainfall deficiency in the state.

In the last 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been observed over northern districts of Bihar. Motihari received 118 mm rainfall, Bhagalpur 94 mm, Muzaffarpur 49 mm, Supaul 41 mm, and Purnea 26 mm.

Currently, the axis of Monsoon trough is running close to the Himalayas. We expect fairly widespread rain to continue over Bihar for another 48 hours. The intensity of rainfall may vary from being light to moderate though. Districts located closer to the foothills can receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

A low pressure area is expected to form over North Bay of Bengal in next two days. The eastern end of the Monsoon trough is likely to shift southward and may pass through Bihar during this time. Although scattered rain will continue over Bihar after 48 hours, but the intensity of rain is expected to increase only by August 25. Also, by August 27, fairly widespread moderate to isolated heavy rainfall is likely in the region.

By the end of the Month, rainfall deficiency in the region will come down further. In fact, as per Skymet Meteorology Division in India, normal rainfall figures may be attained by Bihar over the next 2 to 3 days. Pleasant weather conditions will prevail in the region and temperatures are likely to settle at par or below the normal in most parts.
