Winter chill returns to North India

December 5, 2014 6:45 PM |

Despite a persistent drop in minimum temperatures from second week onwards, November ended on a warmer note in North India. In several parts of the northern plains minimums had dropped to single digit. But under the influence of successive Western Disturbances in the last couple of days of November, night temperatures witnessed a significant rise.

The Western Disturbances did not bring any rain in the plains but their passage changed the wind pattern, leading to a rise in temperatures. These fairly above normal minimums rolled over to December.

As the last Western Disturbance has cleared away, temperatures witnessed a dip in last 24 hours. The winter chill now seems to be coming back and the list below will clearly substantiate this statement.

On Friday morning, Ambala, Chandigarh, Patiala recorded single digit minimums. However, the good wintery chill will be experienced only from the fourth week of December. Snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir around Christmas and New Year’s will bring the moist winter chill across North India.
