Winter chill to increase after snowfall over hills of North India

A fresh Western Disturbance has reached the Western Himalayas. Due to its effect, there is a possibility of rain and snow in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on 5th December. Light to moderate rain at one or two places is possible over northern districts of Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh.

Thunderstorm or light rain may occur over Delhi and its adjoining areas. The effect of this Western Disturbance can be seen in the hilly states till December 6. Due to cloudy sky in North India, the minimum temperature may rise slightly and a slight drop in the maximum temperature may be recorded.

On December 7, this Western Disturbance will move in easterly direction. From December 7 onwards, icy winds will start blowing from the north-west direction over North India. These north-westerly winds will come from the icy mountains and under their influence, there will be a significant drop in the night temperature in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Cold wave is likely to prevail in some parts of Haryana and Rajasthan between December 8 and 10. The minimum temperatures in Delhi and its adjoining areas will also come down to a single digit. From December 7 onwards, there is a possibility of fog in some parts of North India in the morning. Due to fog, the day temperature may also drop slightly in Northwest India.
