Winter rain to continue in East India

January 5, 2014 6:29 PM |

The cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh has now moved eastward to east Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas of southeast Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Under its influence light rain would be witnessed in these parts today and tomorrow. A weather system has emerged in Rajasthan in association with a Western Disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir.

Under the aegis of this weather system, rain has occured at several places in central India in last 24 hours. The capital Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh has recorded 12 mm of rain while Gwalior, Satna and Jabalpur also received rain during this period. Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad and Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh have also received rain. However as the cyclonic circulation will move further eastward, rain will reduce in central India but will continue in Bihar and adjoining Uttar Pradesh.

Western Disturbance (WD) is a low pressure area formed in the Mediterranean Sea and the adjoining Atlantic Ocean. WDs move eastwards to reach the Western Himalayan region in a span of three to four days and bring winter rain in India along with snow in the hills. WD usually travels with its associated air cyclonic circulations and trough (region of intensified moist winds) in the plains. This brings rain in Central and East India.
