Dry weather conditions are still continuing over northwestern plains with winter chill remaining almost absent from most of the places. The cities which are known for recording low temperatures such as Hisar, Churu, Ganganagar and Bikaner are still awaiting for winters to grip them.

One of the major reasons for delayed winters can be attributed to the absence of heavy snowfall over hills of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Although, two episodes of good snowfall had taken place in beginning and mid of November, but the flow of cold northerly winds was restricted by successive Western Disturbances during that period. The results are delayed winters.

However, the only state which has remained unaffected by these restricted flow of chilly winds  is Punjab that has been experiencing winter chill. Many districts of the state that are presently experiencing minimum temperatures below 6℃.

Moreover, dense to very dense fog was also observed over northern parts of Punjab on Friday morning.

Talking about minimum temperatures, Halwara in Punjab recorded coldest night temperature across the plains of the country at 5.4℃, followed by Faridkot and Bhatinda at 5.6℃ each, Adampur at 5.9℃ and Amritsar at 6℃.

In the next two to three days, this constant drop in minimums would be restricted because of a fresh Western Disturbance that will cause change in wind pattern. Cold northwesterly winds would be then replaced by comparatively warm easterly and southeasterly.

However, the winds would change and once again temperatures will start dipping from December 12 or 13 onward and by December 16, we expect winters to set in completely over Punjab, Haryana ,North Rajasthan, Delhi as well as West Uttar Pradesh.

During that time, many cities will experience night temperatures around 5℃-6℃.
