With 117 mm in 24 hours, Ludhiana records highest June rains in a decade

Ludhiana WeatherSouthwest Monsoon has already made an onset over Punjab and Haryana a couple of days ago, and today Monsoon also covered the entire country, about half a month prior to its usual arrival date. With this, rains have picked up pace over the northern parts of the country.

The cyclonic circulation which was over West Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Rajasthan and its interaction with the Western Disturbance in the Western Himalayas has resulted in good rains over Punjab as well as Haryana region in the last 24 hours. In fact, a few very heavy spells of rains have also been witnessed during this period.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Ludhiana recorded a whopping 117 mm of rains which is the highest of the season for the city. Moreover, the city has already surpassed its monthly mean of 61.8 mm in one spell itself.

In the same time frame, Hisar recorded heavy rains to the tune of 53 mm, Patiala 24 mm, Rohtak 15 mm, Amritsar 7 mm, Karnal 7 mm, and Chandigarh 3 mm.

So far, Ludhiana has recorded 210.6 mm of rains which is the highest monthly rains in June during the last decade.

Now, as per Skymet Weather, on and off rainy spells are expected to continue over Ludhiana along with rest of Punjab and Haryana for the next three days. However, after July 3, weather will become dry and winds will also change direction which will result in dry weather over the entire region.
