As on expected lines, Delhi received light to moderate rainfall last night. The base station Safdarjung recorded 10mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours. Palam and Lodhi Road offices registered 5mm and 13.2mm of rainfall during the same period. Rainfall over Delhi after the withdrawal of the monsoon is not too often, but against the norms, the record observatory Safdarjung has logged 62mm of rainfall during the first six days of the month, against the monthly normal of 14mm. Last year, no rainfall was recorded in the month of October.
In addition to the rainfall, the temperatures have also dipped in the past 24 hours. Safdarjung recorded a minimum of 20.6°C, about 2°C below normal. The airport observatory Palam registered a minimum of 19.6°C, about 3°C below normal. This is the first time that temperatures have dropped below 20°C after the winter season of this year. The Lodhi Road office also measured its first sub-20°C reading, with a minimum of 19.8°C. These are precursors to the likely change in weather conditions. There have been rains in the plains of North India and some snowfall in the mountains, which will lead to a further drop in mercury levels in the coming days.\
Delhi/NCR is likely to have a longer spell of rain and thundershowers today. The intensity and spread of rainfall will be higher in the evening and night, with one or two showers possibly heavier than the rest. The weather activity will continue till the early hours of tomorrow, with a light sprinkle expected for a short while thereafter. The minimum temperature will hover around 20°C. Broad clearance is expected the day after tomorrow. Weather conditions will remain good for the rest of the week and fair weather is likely next week as well.
