Delhi remained mostly dry during the last one week. The Southwest Monsoon exited a little before time. But, there is no mandatory stopping of rainfall after the withdrawal of the monsoon. The retreating monsoon, coupled with some westerly system, can always trigger rainfall activity, akin to monsoon days. A similar thing is likely on the weekend between 26th and 27th September 2026. The rains may even roll over to the start of next week, albeit with a shrink in spread and intensity.

The remnant of the weather system from the Bay of Bengal will reach as a depression/well-marked low-pressure area over Madhya Pradesh and the adjoining region today. Conditions are building up for heavy rains over the state of Uttar Pradesh late in the evening and tonight. The extension of these rains will make proximity to Delhi tomorrow. A westerly system as an upper-air trough will be in place soon, and the two systems will interact to complement each other and increase the spread of rainfall activity.

Weather activity will start a little late tomorrow and go on into the night and the next morning over Delhi/NCR. The duration of activity will be longer on Sunday, and most parts of the Delhi region will have moderate thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds. The main system will trigger heavy rains over West Uttar Pradesh and the hilly state of Uttarakhand. The extension of that activity will reach the peripherals of Delhi over the weekend. Even the remnant effect of the main system may bring light showers over and around the capital city on Monday and Tuesday. The monsoon retreat from Delhi will be clearly manifested thereafter, and clear weather conditions will prevail from mid-week next for the entire NCR.
