Monsoon rains have literally been silent for Mumbai for the last few days. But the rains have kept date with Mumbai, quite often on the weekend. The upcoming weekend will be no different, and heavy rains are expected over the capital city and suburbs. This could, as well, be the last monsoon spell of this season for the Konkan region.

A well-marked low-pressure area is lying over Northwest Bay of Bengal. It is likely to become a depression anytime soon and cross the South Odisha coast tomorrow. It will track nearly westward and trace all parts of Maharashtra in a staggered manner. As it crosses the coast tomorrow and moves inland, the weather activity will start, off and along the Konkan region, later in the day. As the system comes closer to the Konkan Coast on the leeward side, it will slow down and may even meander over parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, and South Gujarat for 2–3 days.

Mumbai will see very light rainfall today. Weather activity will increase tomorrow. City and suburbs will have moderate showers, sometime late in the evening tomorrow. The intensity will pick up, right from the wee hours on 28th Sep. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely on 28th, 29th, and 30th September. The downpour could be non-stop or, at best, very short breaks in between. The powerful rains will impact normal life and disrupt connectivity. Commuting may be a big problem due to waterlogging and localized flooding. Rail, road, and air operations are likely to be hit simultaneously.

The severe weather activity will shift north of the city on 01st October. Yet, one or two spells of heavy showers are quite likely. Weather conditions will improve on 02nd October, but the major relief will come on 03rd October wherein light rains are likely on the subsequent weekend. The monsoon will possibly prepare for withdrawal anytime after the first week of October. The normal date of monsoon retreat for Mumbai is 08th October.
